ajdt freezes on Mac OS X [message #24267] Tue, 29 July 2003 16:25 Go to next message

Hi,

When I clik on the link for the post installation configuration
instructions in the AJDT welcome
letter, Eclipse freezes. Likewise if I click on AspectJ in Preferences,
Eclipse freezes. Eclipse's error
log does not say anything. I am running eclipse 2.1.1 with AJDT 1.1.3
on a Mac OS X box. Eclipse is running on the Java 1.4.1 JRE. Any ideas?

Best Regards

Tonny

For what it's worth, I've been having good luck with Eclipse 3.0.1 and
ajdt 1.1.12 on OS X (10.3, running 1.4.2). ajdt 1.2M1 crashes a bit too
easily for me, but I've had the same issue on windows.

(not complaining, btw. the 1.2 featureset looks incredible, and is
worth the wait :-)Stra

Thanks for the info, it's good to know things are better now with newer
versions of Eclipse and AJDT. We hope to be able to borrow a Mac soon to
investigate some open bugs we have on that platform - we're optimistic
that most/all have now gone away!

Please raise bugs when you can to help us fix these crashes. Reproducible
problems on Windows or Linux, with good testcases and/or stack traces are
best, but it's worth logging whatever you can, so we at least know about
the problems.

Regards,

Matt.

If the instability you're seeing is that Eclipse crashes and you're using
a 1.4.2 jvm then I believe the latest development build of AJDT 1.2.0M1
should be more stable. Fixes have gone into this area and myself I've been
noticing the difference :-)

If you'd like to install the latest development build, use the following
update site:

http://download.eclipse.org/technology/ajdt/30/dev/update

or download the zip from the ajdt download page.

Hope this helps, Helen

Thanks Matt and Helen. I'll definitely give the new M1 build a try next
week, and let you know if I still see the problems. Yes, it was
crashing eclipse using the 1.4.2 jdk, in the same way on OS X (eclipse
3.0.1) and a pre-release version of WSAD/RAD 6. Basically creating a
new Aspect using the wizard brought everything down.

Incidently, I have some questions on how best to integrate aspects with
the various projects that applications we work with are broken down
into. I'll make this a separate thread, but am glad to know this group
is so closely monitored.

This is exactly the problem which should be fixed in the latest
development version of AJDT (the fix went into the build on 20/10/04)

Thanks, Helen
