runtime workbench disables most plugins [message #220233] Fri, 06 July 2007 14:10 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Originally posted by: jverge.lycos.com

Hi, I was wondering why a huge number of my plugins get disabled when
forking a runtime workbench. Options that are available in th main
eclipse page aren't available in the forked one. For example I would like
to go new -> Example EMF Model Creation Wizard which, among many others,
disappears.

This is in v3.2.2, with jre1.5.0_12 and compiler compliance set to 5.

These plugins (EMF, GMF, oAW and others) are all enabled and work fine in
the main eclipse, so why would they get disabled in the forked one?

No doubt this is a noob question, but I've looked and can't figure it out.

Thanks for any help...

Jeff,

Usually the Error log will show information about why plugins are
failing to activate.

Thanks Ed, I think the info is here for someone who knows how to decipher
it.

Could it be because eclipse itself is running on jre 1.6? I didn't think
that
would be an issue but now I'm not so sure. Would be easy enough to resolve
if that were it...

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,

I would have though 1.6/6.0 would be fine, but it's certainly worth
trying a different one. The Error Log view will typically explain why a
plugin is not activated. The information below looks like a JVM crash
though. It would be good to clear the log and start again to be sure
you are seeing the messages for the most recent invocation...

Hi again Ed. Yes, you are right, that error log was somthing else. Good
thing I'm in the newcomers' section.

The whole of the pde error log is huge so this is just the first few
lines, but every entry indicates org.eclipse.osgi as the common link
between them.
I have org.eclipse.osgi_3.2.2.R32x_v20070118.jar in my plugins folder and
just
for fun I overwrote it with a new one in case it had become corrputed or
something. I also played around with adding it to the build path, and got
the error message that it was included twice, which is a good thing I
guess...

Is there something I can download (and if so, where is it??) or do you have
any advice you can give me?

Sorry for the noob questions and thanks again for your help.

Jeff,

Based on this information, it looks like maybe you are trying to run EMF
2.3 with Eclipse 3.2.x when it needs Eclipse 3.3.

Yeah I knew about that but because I also have an earlier EMF i didn't
think it
would cause any many problems. I've had difficulty uninstalling that
plugin
but left it because there were no problems until starting a second eclipse.

Looks like the runtime is less forgiving. And i've got some cleanup to do.

Thanks for your time Ed.
