I just joined an embedded project which uses linux as the development host
and MontaVista linux on the target system. I have a windows PC on my desk
and use cygwin to telnet to either the development host or the target.
Eclipse is not currently a part of this system.
My current application debugging options include gdb on the target, remote
gdb for host-based debugging using a processor specific version of gdb, or
ddd as a graphical front-end for remote gdb. I am most interested in
graphical source-level debugging (where I can graphically set breakpoints
and step through the code). It's my hope that the Eclipse IDE would
provide a more polished interface plus other advantages.
Can the Eclipse CDT be used instead of DDD for this system? What needs to
be done to use the Eclipse IDE with debugger for this system? How much
configuration is needed after downloading and installing? I read an
embedded.com article describing how QNX did it, but the article didn't say
if that work has been made available to anyone else or how to take
advantage of it. If we have to do everything QNX did, we probably won't
bother at this time, but if that work is already done for me, I'd like to
know. Is there a document somewhere?
