Unable to detach views [message #1270250] Wed, 12 March 2014 14:55 Go to next message

I'm having a problem with Eclipse + Java. I am unable to detach a view. I can move it around but it won't detach. A right click on a view tab gives me only three choices in the context menu. "Close", "Close Others" and "Close All". I searched through the settings and unable to find a way to add "Detach" to my context menus. Thanks.

Are you talking about editor windows? Those don't detach. Go to Window
-> New Window. This creates a new workbench with most of the original
workbench's settings. Then you can drag the file you wanted "detached"
into the Edit view of the new workbench.

Warning: If you close the first workbench, your workspace will remember
the (usually inadequate) settings of the new workbench. Don't do that;
remember to kill the new workbench first.

I hope this helps.
