We're using Kepler SR1. (I don't know what exact version number that is; "Help->About" shows nothing that looks like a version number. The boxes at the bottom of the About window have little icons that mean nothing to me; mousing over them gives a tooltip reading "Eclipse.org" which is not informative. The "Installation Details" button says it's Standard/SDK 2.0.1, which doesn't ring a bell at all.)

Anyhow. The main Window menu has several entries regarding Perspectives, which (after googling) I think refers to the collection of windows open at any given time. None of the "..." entries do anything when clicked on, like Customize Perspective... or Save Perspective As...

What should our users be doing to preserve their perspective settings? Having to set these up from scratch whenever Eclipse decides to lose/reset them is tedious.

If I understand your question, what you need to know is that workbench
composition and layout are a function of the workspace. Once you get
everything set up just as you want it for the workspace, exit Eclipse
and relaunch. Eclipse will get those settings out of files it keeps.

If you want to create a workspace with the same layout, that's also
possible. Just go to File -> Switch Workspaces and there's a checkbox to
click to keep the same layout when you navigate to the new workspace.

Hope this helps.

It will almost certainly help, and I will pass that along, thank you!

Is it normal or expected for the Perspective-related menu entries to not display anything at all? I would have expected, for example, that Window -> "Save Perspective As..." to at least present a dialog box of some kind.
