Installation problem [message #202203] Thu, 29 March 2007 13:08 Go to next message

Downloaded eclipse-SDK-3.2.2-win32.zip and was extracting the contents to
my C: drive. However in the process of doing so I get the error message
"The system cannot find the file specified". Have downloaded twice from
the internet with the same result.
Attempted to grab all the missing stuff but the installation I cobbled
together doesn't have any tutorial help files; says "No standby content
available. No standby content part defined with id:
org.eclipse.platform.cheatsheet.". Not sure if this is connected with the
initial problem.

Anybody have similar experience?

David

What tool are you using to extract the ZIP? To what path on your drive
are you extracting it?
There have been lots of problems when people try to use the built-in ZIP
file handling in WindowsXP and if they try to extract to a long path on
their filesystem.

Hope this helps,
Eric

I have just opened the zip file by double clicking on it in Windows XP and
then dragged the Eclipse folder to the root of my C: drive. What is wrong
with that?

There have been reports of misadventures when unzipping the eclipse
download using the Windows default zip facility (as you are doing).
Don't know what the problem is, but something apparently goes splat on
occasion. The remedy is to download a freebie zip utility (WinZip,
ZipCentral, 7-Zip, ...) and use that to unzip the archive.

There's also apparently a problem if the unzipped path names end up too
long, but unzipping to C:\Eclipse won't be any problem.
