Eclipse and XML [message #1223539] Mon, 23 December 2013 13:02
Eclipse UserFriend
I have created a members support page for my local computer club which lists useful/recommended applications (for smart Phones as it happens. For various reasons I don't want any server side processing and so I am using XSL transformation in the browser. This is working well - the first version has been working for several years but has just gone through a major revamp.

I have been using a combination of a very old (the last free) version of Altova XML Spy for schema creation, Visual Studio 2012 for XSL creation and debugging, and Microsoft XML Notepad for editing the XML data file.

I am looking for tools which would enable other people to maintain the files without access to expensive tools or no longer available software.

I have been looking at Eclipse but am not even sure which packaged version to download or what further options I might need. I did try Eclipse initially to modify the schema but it would only let me generate simple types. I could not see a way of generating facets with enumerations or data type entries.

I have so far not tried the Eclipse XSL debugging capabilities. Visual Studio 2012 is good, and has helped me up the XSL learning curve. Can Eclipse do the same sort of things? Note that for browser compatibility I am restricted to version 1 of the XSL standards.

I am relatively experienced (but rusty) programmer but this is the most ambitious XML "project" I have embarked on.
