Can not open a workspace... [message #197333] Thu, 01 March 2007 22:28 Go to next message

I am having a problem with one workspace. I can not open it. It
continues to tell me that another instance of Eclipse has it opened.
Naturally, I do not have any other Eclipse instance that has it opened.
And there is no other Eclipse process running on my machine

I have never had this problem before. I just installed a second Eclipse
version that is is 3.3 (eclipse-SDK-3.3M5eh-win32)

My other Eclipse version is 3.2 for using the PDT project.
Installed from: pdt-all-in-one-S20070130_RC2-win32

It does not matter which version of Eclipse I use to open this
workspace. No having problems with other workspaces.

Apparently there must be some type of setting, in that workspace, that
is set when it is open by Eclipse. I think this has to do with Eclipse
3.3 I have had two version before with no problem.

Anyone hear of this problem or any guidance to fix that workspace?

The way the lock mechanism works is that Eclipse attempts to delete the
..lock file when it starts. If it can not (because another Eclipse
instance has it open) then it reports that the workspace in use.
Otherwise, Eclipse holds the file open until it is shut down.

In the workspace .metadata directory you'll find the file named .lock -
if you can delete it and then you should be able to open the workspace,
but it would not explain why Eclipse can't delete the file at start-up
itself.

Hope this helps,
Eric
