Chris, this is on purpose. The Eclipse update process has some limitations which I cannot explain to
you. Therefore, in some/most cases the "Search fro New Features..." is the way to go.

If I remember correctly, there are some changes to the update management planned for the next
release. But I do not know. If you do some research, you will probably find more information.

For the moment, I recommend you to just trust the instructions...

Subversive builds distributed from Eclipse.org uses 0.7.0.x version
numbers instead of 1.1.x one, because projects in incubation phase must
use version numbers before 1.0.0. So, simple update from 1.1.x version to
0.7.0 is not possible because 1.1.x is greater than 0.7.0.x.
