Hello,
I'm new to Eclipse because I used to code in C++, with an very old
compiler (Power++, former known as Optima++). The old compiler I used
offered a RAD-System, Rapid Application Development, just like the
Borland-Builder. So you have a kind of "WYSIWYG" editor, click your
components (labels, buttons, textfields) on a form and then just handle
the events.
Now, since I want to start coding with Java for several reasons, I was
told that Eclpise is a good tool for doing that. But I'm missing this GUI
for creating windows with all these elements on it. If I read right, the
Visual Editor shall offer this possibility? But I installed it via the
online update function from Eclipse, but still I can't figure out how to
create forms (although I also watched the video tutorials on installation,
but there are simply no menu appearing).
My question is: How do I install the VE? And: can I use it for creating
forms in the way e.g. the Borland Builder or Power++ do?
Thanks in advance for your answer
Best
Daniel

Hi Remy,
"So do you mean that you do not see of the menus or menu items that the
video tutorial seemed to be clicking on?"
- Yes, that's exactly the problem.
"If you go Help -> About Eclipse SDK -> Plug-in Details or Feature
Details, do you see Visual Editor anywhere?"
- Well, I have seen the component in the update wizard and I saw the
progress of installing. But I will look at the menus you mentioned
"Did you try rebooting Eclipse with the '-clean' argument appended?"
- No, because I still do not have a good overview over the IDE itself, and
even less over all command line options. But I will try.
Now I also know how to describe what I like to have: A kind of pendant to
the Matisse project of netbeans.org. That's the kind og GUI builder I am
looking for for the Eclipse tool.
Regards
Daniel
