You don't need a special plug-in for that. Simply switch to the Emacs
key binding scheme and use 'Set Mark' command.

Here is how I am working: Under Preferences->General->Editors->Keys, there
is a tab modify and it shows "scheme: Emacs"
Is this correct?

2) Where is the 'Set Mark' command located at?

Yes.

It's in the 'Text Editing' category and the default shortcuts when using
the Emacs scheme are Ctrl+Space and Ctr+2. There's also a 'Clear Mark'
(Ctrl+G). The text between the set mark and the caret location are
treated as a selection when using copy and paste.
