Use of specializationType [message #178435]

I defined a specializationType with an advice in the
org.eclipse.gmf.runtime.emf.type.core.elementTypes extension point.
However, when I then try to create an element from the palette I cannot
do that, although the class it specializes works fine.

Is the specialization mechanism not working like normal inheritance or
did I miss any steps?
