Cannot change perspective unless root. [message #178158] Thu, 02 November 2006 23:51

Hi,
I'm using Eclipse 3.2.1 in (K)ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy). I'm not using the
(K)ubuntu packages, I downloaded and installed the Eclipse SDK from the
eclipse.org into /usr/local as root.

Anyways, as root, I installed PHPEclipse, quit Eclipse and restarted it as
normal user. I created a PHP project from CVS and the PHP perspective
worked as expected.

My PHP project has some Python and Ruby scripts. So I quit Eclipse and
restarted it as root and installed the RDT and PyDev plugins. Then I quit
Eclipse and restarted it as a normal user and opened my PHP project.

Now when I click on a Python script, it gives me this error:

"Unable to create this part due to an internal error. Reason for the
failure: The editor class could not be instantiated. This usually indicates
that the editor's class name was mistyped in plugin.xml."

If I manually try to change perspectives to PyDev or Ruby, Eclipse does
nothing or says "Problems opening
perspective 'org.rubypeople.rdt.ui.PerspectiveRuby'" respectively.

The weird thing is if I start Eclipse as root, I can change perspectives to
PyDev or Ruby without a problem.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help,
-- Christopher
