Mac: Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode [message #171686] Wed, 20 September 2006 06:27 Go to next message

Hello,

as a newbie I got lost receiving the following message after launching
some java code from within Eclipse having some swing components: [Java
CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Enabled, [Java CocoaComponent
compatibility mode]: Setting timeout for SWT to 0.100000. Then the app is
frozen. It worked previously until I experimented a little with
JFreeReport/Panthone BI/reporting.

I am on:
Eclipse Version: 3.1.0, Build id: I20050627-1435
Mac OS X 10.4.7
java version "1.4.2_09"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_09-232)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-54, mixed mode)

I have seen one bug report related to this topic but what is written there
is more or less greek to me and a) it says its fixed and b) it seems by
running this JFreeReport stuff some setting or so was changed so that now
I have this issue (it worked before).

Anyone any idea? I am stuck and want to continue writing some software for
a school ...

Many thanks for any help!
Wolfgang

On Java 1.4+ the SWT-AWT bridhge is broken, so no swing integration is possible.

get java 1.5 from connect.apple.com or developer.apple.com

Wolfgang,

You'll also have to be using Eclipse 3.2 if you want to use the SWT_AWT
bridge on OS X. See http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php#swtawtosx for
details.

Hope this helps,
- Jeff

Jeff, Marteen,

thank you very much for your reply. I have now:
- Eclipse Version: 3.2.0, Build id: M20060629-1905.
- java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-112)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-64, mixed mode, sharing)
- Installed 'eclipse-SDK-3.2-macosx-carbon' from the apple developer site.

It worked fine - ONE time. Then, before backing up my laptop, I wanted to
make sure everything comes up fine and just started one after another:
Apple Pages, Adobe Illlustrator 12, Maya 7, iCal, AddressBook, iTunes and
TextWrangler. After exiting those apps I launched my Java app again and
... darn ... the same message and a frozen app as before.

I guess there must be some parameter/switch some app overwrites or alike.
Do you have any idea?
Thanks a mill'.
Wolfgang
