Building workspace takes ages [message #164472] Tue, 08 August 2006 08:32 Go to next message

Hello,
I work with Eclipse 3.2 and Subversion 1.3.2. I created a repository on
the server (via LAN), I use the fsfs (not the Berkely db filesystem). My
working directorey is located on the same server that contains the repos.

I want to add an Eclipse project to te repository from Eclipse.
In Eclipse I right-click the project folder, choose 'team'. I have to make
a new folder in the repository. That works OK. The files are imported,
then transmitted until I see a 'transfer completed' message and 'updated
to revision xxx'. So far so good. Then Eclipse is updating the workspace
and it doesn't stop. It takes more than 10 minutes and the progress is
always at 0% so I have the impression nothing happens.

Is this a bug in Eclipse / SVN or am I doing something wrong???

Hi,
I think it should be 2 or 3 times faster if You had the workspace on a
local hard disk instead on the LAN. But even then it will take minutes.
If You are working with large jsp projects and myeclipse, disabling the
jsp validation will make it much quicker.

Is here someone who can definitively tell the time difference for
"building workspace" between a single CPU 2800MHz Pentium 4 machine and
one of those new Core2 DUO machines?

Greetings,

Tobias Barth
