Web Service creation process under Eclipse WTP [message #163802] Tue, 14 March 2006 03:18

I am a new comer in the world of web services and I have recently
downloaded the Eclipse WTP plug-in to develop such services (targeted
for Tomcat+axis container).
I have read the tutorial but I have to say that I am a bit confused with
other previous readings.
Actually, what seems quite obscure for me is the way a web service is
created under Eclipse with the bottom-up wizard. I explain:
This wizard starts from a rough implementation class providing the web
service endpoints and does not mandate to comply with the requirements
specified by the JAX-RPC specifications. I have read in these
specifications (section 5.2) that, among other things, the SEI must
extend the java.rmi.Remote interface and that all methods in the
interface must throw java.rmi.RemoteException. The official SUN tutorial
also follows this process to create a web service with JAX-RPC. So I
really wonder why it does not work like this with Eclipse WTP. I also
wonder whether my web services will be compliant with the JAX-RPC
specifications if I develop them with Eclipse WTP and finally if they
could then be deployed in any other J2EE application server than
Tomcat+Axis.

Could you please help me clarify the points above since I am really lost
at this stage and I hesitate to make the first step ?

Many thanks.
