As per the Eclipse Development Process
< http://www.eclipse.org/org/documents/Eclipse%20Development%2 0Process%202003_11_09%20FINAL.pdf>,
we are notifying the Eclipse Membership-at-Large of the intent of Sybase
to propose the top-level Data Tools Project. A brief description of the
project is below. A draft project proposal is at
http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/eclipse-dtp/index.htm

------------------------------------------------------------ ------------

*Data Tools Project*
The Data Tools Project (DTP) is a proposed top-level project of
eclipse.org. DTP will consist of extensible frameworks and tools
covering a comprehensive set of fundamental requirements in data
management. The frameworks will enable core data management
functionality such as driver and connection management, database
exploration, administration, and SQL support. Built on these frameworks,
specialized tools for data-driven development, such as Object/Relational
Mapping, XML/Relational Mapping, and Extract-Transform-Load, will round
out the projects contained in DTP. In the spirit of eclipse.org, the
frameworks and tools will be vendor neutral, the development process
agile, and community involvement level will be fostered to provide a
rich ecosystem benefiting the entire Eclipse membership-at-large.

We look forward to input and discussion from the Eclipse community.
