How to migrate to WTP. [message #161769] Thu, 23 February 2006 13:41 Go to next message

Hello,
I used to develop Java servlet/jsp applications using the Sysdeo Tomcat
plug-in for Eclipse. I have now installed WTP and I would like
step-by-step instructions for migrating projects from using the Sysdeo
plug-in to using WTP.

Cheers,
Kal

stay with sysdeo, it's much more usefull
till WTP 0,7 I have defined two projects, one with WTP+sysdeo and
another with pure WTP. I'm still using sysdeo because it doesn't need
synchronization, it doesn't hang and you can have a few project
simultanously
The only problem is JSP syntax checking, it seems that in WTP project it
works better.

Although there's no provided way to directly convert from a project
set up for use with Sysdeo's Tomcat plugin to a WTP Dynamic Web
Project, you'll find the default project layouts to be nearly
identical. With WTP, there's currently the additional steps of
setting up a Tomcat runtime and defining a Server instance. You'll
find a lot of you questions (hopefully) answered in the "Building
and Running a Web Application" tutorial:

http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/tutorials/BuildJ2E EWebApp/BuildJ2EEWebApp.html

Bear in mind that that tutorial was written with a very early
version of WTP, so some terms have been changed (such as how "J2EE
Web Projects" are now "Dynamic Web Projects").
