I'm such a newb I know. Just following the tutorial provided by Google.

Even if I copy and paste the code from the tutorial I get syntax errors.

I know nothing just barely started learning but it just doesn't seem right to me like the tutorial has forgotten to mention something.

Can someone clarify this for me or even direct me to a better tutorial to learn the basics from?

That's a question about the Android Developer Tools, in which case this won't reach the intended audience (eclipse.org != Google).

Please read http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/225513/ .

The quick explanation is that you've put a method after closing bracket of the class.
