Setting up Eclipse for uncommon programming languages [message #153327] Thu, 18 May 2006 23:15 Go to next message

Hi!
I mostly work with two very uncommon programming languages (K, which is
APL based and Vorlage which is really just a tiny scripting language for
an Email game i've been playing for quite a few years now). I recently
became aware of this project (Eclipse) and since my current text editor is
not really meant to be an IDE (even though it almost is, but some nice
features like autocompletion are missing), i was wondering if i could use
Ecplise for that instead.

However, when i had a short glimpse at the documentation, it almost scared
me away. It seems to be mostly adressed to the major programming
languages. So my question is: How difficult is it, to set up Eclipse to
work with those 2 programming languages? I do not want to waste my time,
working through this huge documentation, just to find out, that it can't
be done or takes years (as i will probably not have help in setting this
up). Thank you for your help,

Helge

You cannot customize the Eclipse text editor via UI. Code has to be
written to support a certain language. The first thing for you to check
is whether there's already a plug-in out there that does this. Besides
google the best spot for finding such a plug-in is
http://www.eclipseplugincentral.com/.
