Welcome to Eclipse.
Do this...
File -> Import... -> General -> Existing Projects into Workspace -> Next
Navigate to find the subdirectory you checked out from Subversion and
click Finish.

Try it, you'll see. You'll have the option of having Eclipse copy it
into the workspace, but of course, like me, you won't click to take that
option. The only thing you'll see inside your workspace is .metadata and
Server and only the latter if you're doing Dynamic Web Projects.
