Plugin installation frustration [message #148875] Sun, 16 April 2006 19:54 Go to next message

Howdy, I'm attempting to evaluate eclipse for my development needs (PHP,
Ruby on Rails, XHTML, CSS etc.) and have hit a wall. I'm attempting to
install three plugins via the Software Updates > Find and Install menu to
no avail. Other plugins have installed without a hitch. Specifically, I am
attempting to install Subclipse, RadRails and the Ruby Development Tools.
While the system locates the proper plugins to install, the final Finish
button is unclickable and grayed out.

My configuration is a bit bleeding edge, so I expect there to be some
issues, but I would truly like to include eclipse in my decision making.

My setup:
Comp: MacBook Pro
Eclipse: 3.2RC1-macosx-carbon

Any help is greatly appreciated!

One more note: all required components are included in the install
process, so there aren't any errors. I've also attempted to install each
plugin separately and in different combinations.

Since you finally cast the net as to include us incompetents (you DID
say "Anyone..." in a subsequent post :-) ), I'll respond with the
observation that you may have gone TOO bleeding edge... is there any
chance you can download 3.2M6 and try that to see if it is RC1
specifically? I've seen some concerns expressed that RC1 != M6 and
perhaps there are a few changes in RC1 that might break some
even-leading-edge M6 stuff. So why not pare the tree as to whether M6
works or not. If M6 works, you can file the bugzilla against RC1 (and be
the first on your block to do so!); if not, then you're in the
3.2Mac-meets-other-plugins realm of chasing the bug.

Otherwise, I think you're a pioneer WAY out on the trail ahead of your
colleagues... watch out for more incoming arrows! :-)

Thanks Randy! You make a great point - I should have thought to try the
previous release, especially as this is a pre-release on a brand new
platform. A bit of a 'duh' moment there...

I'll give M6 a shot tonight or tomorrow and report back - hopefully as a
happy camper.

A bit of a late response, but RC1a solved the issue. Thanks again!
