M9 - no perspective [message #148821] Thu, 24 November 2005 07:35 Go to next message

Hello,
I opened a "fresh" eclipse 3.1.1 and in it added:
emf-sdo-SDK-2.1.1
GEF-SDK-3.1.1
JEM-SDK-1.1.0.1
and
wtp-1.0M9

When I started eclipse there was no J2EE perspective, and when trying to
create a new project, none of the WTP related projects were available (e.g.,
dynamic web project).

What did I do wrong?

I think you've installed it wrong. I see the J2EE perspective and project
types just fine. You might want to try again.

I tried it again, but again - the same...
How can tell know what is wrong (logs somewhere or anything)?

Are you sure you downloaded "wtp-1.0M9"; or was it "wst-1.0M9" by accident ?

Window -> Open Perspective ... -> Other -> J2EE ????

here's a copy/paste of it:
wtp-1.0M9.zip

I deleted the eclipse dir, opened eclipse 3.1.1 into a new dir, opened all
prerequisites and then the WTP.

And there's no perspective... :(

Take a look at Help -> About

Can you see WST or JST plugins in there.

Check out the "View Error Log" for reasons why they may not be
activating if they are in there.

Check your Error Log view (open via Window-Show View). M9 may have had
some problem initializing one of it's plugins - it would be logged
there. This might happen if the workspace that you were using was
previously used by an earlier release. If so, try specifying a new
workspace when starting M9. If that works, delete the contents of the
old <workspace>\.metadata folder (though doing so will of course 'clean'
your prefences, histories etc)...

ECLIPSE_HOME/configuration/org.eclipse.*

Looks like an unrelated error to me.

All I can say is that under both Win32 and Linux folling the above
instructions does work for me. However I have downloaded the SDK
versions of the platform and WTP as well rather than the runtime only
versions.

Mr Zohar

If you have not resolved your problem try this (I'm supposing you are
working in a Windows environment):

1. Download (If you have not don yet) and extract the following zip files
in the given order:

1. eclipse-SDK-3.1.1-win32.zip
2. emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-2.1.1.zip
3. GEF-ALL-3.1.1.zip
4. JEM-SDK-1.1.zip
5. wtp-sdk-1.0M9.zip

If you are plannig to use EMF you should also download and unpack
uml2-SDK-1.1.1.zip

6. Create a new directory and name as you wish, to use it as a workspace.
7. Start eclipse
8. In the "Select a Workspace" window, select the directory you created in
step 6
9. See if you have the J2EE Perspective by selecting Window > Open
Perspective > Other

I'm pretty sure it works. As I have a lot of other stuff in my Eclipse
environment y installed a new one with the objects in the list to make
sure it will work for you.

Good luck.

I tried using emf-sdo-SDK-2.1.1.zip instead of emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-2.1.1.zip.
Now that I downloaded the correct one I have the J2EE back - thank you.
