How do you uninstall the PMD plugin, or any plugin, for that matter? I'm
having trouble with the PMD plugin, and I'd like to see if removing any
version of the PMD plugin before installing it will resolve the issues I'm
seeing (I know one bug I hit is due to that). I tried deleting the
directory associated with the plugin in the ".metadata/.plugins"
directory, but that didn't seem to work, and it made it worse.

From within Eclipse:
Disable the feature(s) --
Navigate to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration
For each feature you want to be rid of select it in the left pane
and then select Disable in the right pane.
When finished, answer 'Yes' to the dialog that suggests restarting
Eclipse.

Uninstall the feature(s) --
Navigate to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration
Ensure that you can see disabled features -- it is toggled by the
'Show Disabled Features' icon.
For each disabled feature, select it in the left pane and select
Uninstall in the right pane.
When finished, answer 'Yes' to the dialog that suggests restarting
Eclipse.

From outside Eclipse:
Mostly left as an exercise for the reader. Fundamentally, find the
features to be deleted in the <eclipse>/features directory and the
related plugins in the <eclipse>/plugins directory and delete them.
You may need to read through the XML files in the features directory
to determine which plugins to remove.

After deleting the features and plugins, it may be advisable to run
eclipse with the -clean option to clear out any lingering metadata.

Ok, I think I've gotten there now. However, now I'm unable to reinstall
the plugin.

Just in case, I even removed the remote PMD site and re-added it (with
"http://pmd.sf.net/eclipse"), but it always says:

"No features found on the selected site(s)..."

Never mind, I didn't really properly "uninstall" it. I missed the actual
"Uninstall" step. I thought I had done it, but I was mistaken. It's
deceiving when you don't see it in the list of features, until you
specifically list the disabled features.

Unfortunately, I now see that when I try to reinstall the PMD plugin, the
3.1.5 version isn't available anymore. It thinks the 3.1.4 version is the
latest version. I also see that at this moment the Sourceforge site is
"down for maintenance". I don't know whether that's a coincidence or not.

Install 3.1.4, then do a search for updates.
