Hi,

I was away from java programming for 4 Years now and I want to dive in again.

I want to use Eclipse Juno (4.2) SR1 (Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers) as available here.

Questions:
- What JDK (SE / EE) should I use / is intended to use with this version of Eclipse?

(I am a little puzzled because its seems that I get the EE JDK only bundlet with a
Glassfish SDK??)

Background:

I want to
- develop desktop applications with a SWT gui
- use plug-in's like WindowBuilder Pro, SVN
- access web services (SOAP, REST, etc.) like Amazon Web Services

Thx
Martin

Ok. There are both, SE and EE available. Which one do you recommend?

You can pull down the Glassfish stuff if that's the server container you
want to use. I don't because I use Tomcat. The EE part really comes from
a) Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers (the plug-ins that make Eclipse do
web platform) and b) the myriad, peculiar third-party stuff I download
most of which doesn't come from the Glassfish download. In particular, I
use Tomcat and Jersey.

Same answer if you use JBoss.

I do remember the SE vs. EE distinction you're talking about in the Java
download and I used to do that, but until you asked, I had almost
forgotten about it. That's no longer an important dichotomy even if it
exists. I find the EE (Glassfish) download to be more crap to sort
through than I wanted and it takes up space needlessly. Others may,
however, see it differently so this is just my own two cents.

Best of luck,

Russ
