I recently installed MAT 1.2.1 on my windows machine and am using Indigo eclipse. I have a friend who is also using indigo on a linux machine. Going into the memory analyzer perspective and selecting File->Open Heap Dump, I have noticed a difference. In my friend's list, it shows both phd and hprof files but in mine it shows only hprof. Is there a limitation in Windows for some reason that does not allow opening phd?

In order to open dumps from IBM VMs (PHD or system dumps), you need to install the IBM Diagnostic Tool Framework for Java (DTFJ) from the IBM site.
Have a look at this description:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/MemoryAnalyzer#System_Dumps_and_Heap_Dumps_from_IBM_Virtual_Machines

I hope this helps!
