How to run the GEF redbook example [message #142304] Fri, 09 July 2004 21:37 Go to next message

Hi,
I am new to Eclipse and GEF and I am trying to learn from the redbook
example SAL330REditorExample. I went through the tutorial step by step,
compiled the example and tried to run it as a plug-in. The problem is the
authors don't tell you how to invoke the plug-in. I put the jar file and
plug-in.xml file in the plugins/com.ibm.itso.sal330r.editor directory,
started the runtime Workbench, but I don't see any way of invoking it.
Very frustrating! How do I do this? I believe there are no problems with
the plug-in, because I don't get any error messages in the console of the
dev Workbench.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks,

Barry

Which version eclipse and gef are you using? I think that one required 2.1
and gef 2.1. Mine worked fine with that setup.

When I tried with 3.0, I have to go through code and modify some of
imcompatible features on their example plugin.

Hi John,

Then it will be hard for me to study how the example works because I am
using Eclipse 3.0 and GEF 3.0. But it did compile fine and I don't get any
errors, just a few deprecation warnings which should be okay.

So how do you start the editor once it is deployed?

I don't suppose you would mind zipping up your project directory for
the one you tried with 3.0 and emailing it to me? I would really
appreciate it.

Barry
