I had to replace my .metadata folder under Eclipse 3.1 WTP earlier this
week after it stopped recognizing my J2EE perspective on my Windows XP
box. At this time, I also downloaded and extracted the latest version of
Eclipse 3.1 WTP. I figured it made sense to get a new build since I was
more less starting over.

Now, I'm able to bring my existing projects back into Eclipse, and I have
my J2EE perspective back. However, I am not able to create a new Servlet.
The message I'm getting reads as follows:

“An error has occurred when Create Servlet finished”.

The details start out as follows:
“java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException”

I get the feeling I may be missing a key JAR file or Library but
everything seems to be in place and my setup process was identical to my
previous install.

I am running j2sdk1.4.2_08 and Tomcat 5.0. Another oddity is that Tomcat
will no longer fire from the startup.bat file but it will run from within
Eclipse.

Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I can always go back to
developing in JDeveloper but I would much prefer to stick with Eclipse.

I'm back in business. I had to remove the contents from my ".metadata"
folder again, but now things finally seem to be back in sync.

It seems the tutorials are little behind the times. Nonetheless, I am
grateful for the tool!
