No memory analysis events with TPTP and Tomcat [message #139981] Thu, 05 February 2009 21:10 Go to next message

Hi,

I have started using TPTP 4.5 to analyze a web application running with
Tomcat 5.5 and JDK 1.5. I have set up everything to profile the
application entirely from within Eclipse (Tomcat is started from WTP),
using the IAC.

I am able to do an execution time analysis, and get nice results. When I
try to do a memory analysis I don't get any data displayed. In the status
bar I see that there are about 4900 bytes processed right during startup,
thereafter there are no more events.

I have tried to set the filters, restart Eclipse with -clean, changed the
Tomcat VM memory parameters, and fiddled around quite a bit, but no change.

Anybody else having this problem? Is this a known TPTP problem, or am I
doing something wrong here?

Well, I am a little further. I switched to option Java profilinge Pre JRE
1.5, and it is collection memory analysis data now - for about 20 seconds.
Then the following nasty message appears:

#
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x10018720, pid=4708,
tid=2124
#
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.5.0_06-b05 mixed mode)
# Problematic frame:
# C [piAgent.dll+0x18720]
#
# An error report file with more information is saved as hs_err_pid4708.log
#
# If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
# http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp
#

and the process is terminated. I can see the collected memory data, but of
course I would love to have the machine run a little longer than that...

Hi Jorg,

Could you try with a more latest release of TPTP? eg TPTP v4.5.1. Also =
which JVM version are you using (java -version)? I am having trouble =
reproducing the problem with the Tomcat 6 samples on Windows XP. Does =
this happen on Widnows or Linux?

Eugene
