This maybe a dumb question but I have been spending past 20 minutes trying
to find VE 1.3 Roadmap and what are planned for the next version but there
has been no luck. Is VE project ending or am I missing something?

Appreciate help...

Cheers,
Nasser

That is just wrong!!

I guess I should stop recommending VE/Eclipse as the tool of choice for my
projects then!

Agreed. Plus, I think if VE wants to get on the Eclipse 3.3/Europa
release train, they need to do so VERY soon. I think a good visual editor
(for both GUIs and web-based interfaces) is key to Eclipse to be used by
organizations without the expertise or resources to create user interfaces
by hand.

Who would "they" be? ;-) Are you volunteering? The VE project is like any
other Eclipse project...more or less happens on it based on the amount of
time people have to work on it. The more people willing to contribute time
on the project, the more will get done. As it stands, the Eclipse VE
Swing/SWT GUI builder is a very nice tool and easily fulfills its goal of
being a exemplary example of what can be created with the VE project code
base.

FYI...a number of good visual editors are available for Eclipse in addition
to the VE:

Jigloo - SWT & Swing support, commercial, inexpensive, free NC usage
http://cloudgarden.com/jigloo/

JFormsDesigner - Swing support only, available for multiple IDEs, commercial
http://www.jformdesigner.com/

Matisse4MyEclipse - Swing support only, part of MyEclipse, commercial, very
inexpensive
http://www.myeclipseide.com/ContentExpress-display-ceid-77.h tml

WindowBuilder Pro - SWT, Swing & GWT support (our product), commercial,
inexpensive academic and NC licenses
Winner of Eclipse Magazin's 2006 Reader's Choice Award for Best
Eclipse-based Commercial Software Solution.

BTW, all of the above products are very well supported by their respective
vendors.

This is true. Although, often Eclipse member companies will have an
interest or stake in a particular project, and will contribute employee
time towards development. This may or may not be the case with VE; I
don't know.

It remains true, however, that if VE is to survive as an exemplary editor,
it does need to keep up with UI technologies. For instance, a number of
improvements have been made to the SWT for Eclipse 3.3. And it also
remains true that if VE wants to be a part of Europa, it needs to join
soon! I'm not trying to put down the talented contributors, just pointing
out a reality. :-)

And thanks for the tips on other VE-based products. That's very helpful!

Cheers,
-James
