I'm trying to understand how to use the class
org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.core.OSGi. Maybe someone can give me
an example?

Hi Markus,

In order to see an example on how the start the Equinox RT
programmatically, check out the source code of the Servlet Bridge. The
servlet bridge starts the Equinox runtime from a servlet.

That project is called: 'org.eclipse.equinox.servletbridge';

You can find in CVS at dev.eclipse.org (see screenshot of Properties
Dialog).

I'm trying to do more or less the same but running into an issue which I
don't know can be overcome, at least with the current implementation. My
app runs in a restrictive container which does not allow class loaders to
be created unless they are of a particular type (defined by the container
stack). There are several classloaders created during framework
initialization, the one I stumbled upon is the "boot classloader" created
in SecureAction, I'm getting a permissions exception from my container
during Framework construction. Am I pushing Equinox too far?

Maybe. Being able to create class loaders is fairly funadamental to Equinox.
If you want to run under a security manager like what you describe you have
to grant the classes that bootstraps the platform All Permissions or you're
going to run into problems. I've done this in the past so can confirm it
works however it's something to be aware of.

Unfortunately granting permissions is not an option. Ironically, the
environment I'm referring is based on a spec from the embedded software
domain, and OSGI was originally designed to be run as embedded framework.
As I mentioned classloaders are allowed but only of a particular type, so
in theory it should be possible to delegate classloader instantiation to
outside the framework in some way so that a proper type can be used.
Hacking Equinox is an option of course, but I'm going to look into other
OSGI implementations first.
