hi,

My understanding of XSD is a plugin which provides an editor for XSD. Can it
be used to edit XML file in general? Why/Why not? I would think an xml
editor in general will be more useful. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you.

Hal,

No, XSD provides an editor that edits XML Schema files only, and even then, we
only claim that it's a Sample Editor because we just haven't invested the
resources to make it really good. The focus of the XSD project is to support a
high quality XML Schema model, the rest is gravy.

I agree that an XML Schema aware XML editor would be a cool thing, but that's
for another project to provide...

Well, what about a project developing a EMF/XSD based UML tool plugin (e.g.
for Rose, TCC and Gentleware's Poseidon) instead of writing just another
editor? To use UML (which is getting closer and closer to MOF) and the
org.omg.uml Java package to me looks like the way to go: Use interoperable
IT Standards like UML and XMI for mission critical solutions is the way to
go! (Just my personal opinion formerly being a German Rose presales rep...).
