Linux System Trace - What does it do? [message #120403]

Basically I want to replicate Windows PerfMon functionality. I have looked
through the tutorials and presentations on TPTP that I can find, but they
never seem to touch on that type of monitoring...just profiling Java apps.

Can anybody shed some light on this area? Thanks!
