Hi,

The Web Tools Platform project has tools for developing Web and J2EE
applications. You can download and install the latest milestone from
http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/drops/S-1.0M4 -200504292037/.

If you download wtp-eclipse-emf-gef-jem-sdk-1.0M4.zip you just need to
unzip it and you're good to go. Take a look at
http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/community.html#tut orials for
tutorials describing how to use the tools.

Any feedback you can give as a new user is greatly appreciated as you can
only be a new WTP user once.

Lawrence

Is there any reason why we don't have a combined zip for M5[1]? The
combined ZIPs are very convenient.

Thanks,
Glen

There's no reason ... other than the person to produce it had to travel ... so should be one in
a day or two ... but ... honestly ... 5 zips instead of 1 isn't too bad ... is it?
And, I really don't mean to be flip ... I'm just wondering what's hard .. the download time, getting
unzipped in right place? Other's download pages? Other?

And, don't get me wrong, we fully intend to improve and have an update manager version available by the
time we release.

But in the mean time, if you could get started with the zips, and help us test, that would be great.

Thanks

Downloading 5 zips is the easy part, and doesn't bother me personally.
My experience with eclipse and plugins is that it works as expected 95% of
the time.
If you don't want to run into problems, you need to start eclipse, close
eclipse install plugin 1. Start eclipse, closse eclipse go on to the next
and etc.

Sometimes, if things get messed up, loading with -clean works wonders.

I have never had to run with -clean nor install a plugin at a time with
one of the combined downloads. Supposidly, most of the plugin install
problems have been fixed in 3.0 and 3.1, and I don't want to seem to beat
a dead horse, but I did see some posts yet again of people having problems
installing 0.7M5 on 3.1 because they forgot a plugin or needed to run
-clean, or downloaded the wrong zip files to begin with.

I've downloaded the seperate plugins, and installed it successfully
myself, but I look at the site every day for a version that would save me
the pain of debugging some of my collegues mistakes in installing the
software.

Of course, by this time, if the first RC makes it in tomorrow... skip the
M5 Windows Preconfigured bundle and go with an RC instead.

As well, it would be a sad thing to see these downloads not count towards
the Million Download Challenge.

It's not hard, just really nice and convenient. When you spoil your
users with all-in-ones we get, well, spoiled. ;-)

Thanks for the response.
