Hi all,
i followed 3.4 development up to M5 without great problems but now P2
looks to be a show stopper.
I have an eclipse installation where during time i have collected, among
releases, milestones and development, several tenths of sites.
Then the installation of features is accurately divided in different
installation locations so that wtp, emf, ajdt, emft, gmf, mylyn, public
features installable via UM or manually installable plugins, etc. each
have their own installation directory.

I tried to read P2 doc but there are some points that i was not able to
clarify.
1- will i be able to migrate all my sites into P2 without having to
reenter manually each of them?

2- reading around looks that P2 is not supporting multiple installation
locations, is that true? Will i be able to maintain my current
installation structure?

3- will i be able to chose myself like now the type of requisites to
install? I mean, for example that wtp may require a certain level of EMF,
but now i can decide to install a higher level or i can decide to install
the sdk instead of the runtime etc.
I DO NOT WANT any automatic requisite installation in the background
without the option to choose if accept it or change it to something else.
Will i be able to?

4- in a few words, now i have full control of what, when and where to
install anything and i WANT to maintain absolute and granular control of
the whole installation. Will i be able to with P2?

Thanks in advance, Gabriele

What you can do is take a vanilla Eclipse 3.4 M6+ install and add local
installation sites for each of your existing installation locations:
"Help / Software Updates...", tab "Available Software", button "Manage
sites...", button "Add..", button "Local...". You have to manually do
this for all of your installation locations, but that should really be
just a couple of minutes of work.

Afterwards, you can see all features of these sites in "Available
Software", select them and install them into your fresh Eclipse install.
From my experience, this is the preferred way to get a consistent
configuration.

Alternatively, you can create a "links" folder with .link files pointing
to the different installation locations. Your mileage may vary with
respect to unresolved dependencies that you may end up with in your
configuration.
