Suppose you have a project in your Eclipse IDE. You haven't even deployed this project. You are just editing away. This file of course exists on your file system and is easy to find. But I am wondering does eclipse secretly make its own copy anywhere?

Put the question another way, say I have 5 projects open in my workspace. Again none are deployed. If I close a project, or my putting less memory pressure on eclipse?

I know eclipse copies files when it deployes onto Tomcat. But *I am not* talking about that scenario. Hope my question makes sense.

There are too many factors to be sure about this: what kind of file is
it, what kind of project is it, is automatic building enabled, what
plug-ins are installed...
