I would like to use the user admin service, but from what I see, the equinox
implementation only persists the data to a text file. What is the best way
of creating an alternative persistence mechanism?

Hi Paul,

Since persistence is not currently factored out, the first step is to log an
enhacement request so that we don't lose the idea. If you go ahead with
creating an alternate persistence mechanism it would be great if you could
suggest ways the service might be altered to support your use-case. It's
unlikely anything would be done for 3.3 however this sort of work might be
reasonable for 3.4 -- user admin looks like it might be a good way to
support declarative security for some of the server-side stuff.

Do you know of any ldap implementations? There are some old references on
the felix mailing list about creating one, but I can't find any
implementations. I'm not actually going to use it -- too much for my
present needs -- but I want to take a look anyways.

You might search the archives and ask around on the Apache Directory
project's dev and user lists.
I remember Enrique Rodriguez was doing something in the directory sandbox
however I haven't followed this and am not sure if it was completed. That
said I think there are a lot of interesting components there and that group
is already OSGi aware so regardless it might be a good place to get some
building blocks.
