A while ago, I inquired about the possibility of using URI for workspace on Eclipse 3.6.x

This feature is useful for re-using the smb client support already packaged with Ubuntu's GNOME, without having to install an additional CIFS package:

smb://userid@192.168.0.2/sandbox/workspace

I have been told that this is not currently supported.

Since then, Eclipse 3.7.x and 4.x have been released, but I couldn't find any reference to this feature.

Do you know if this is feature has been implemented in Eclipse 3.7.x or 4.x?

If it hasn't been implemented yet, are there plans to do so?
