Hi.
Is there more actual info than on wiki.eclipse.org/EMF/GWT?

I mean:
- do I still have to install eclipse 3.6.1 and then the newest EMF on top?
- do I still need to download the cloudsmith.com/emf4gwt/sdk, and is
there a newer version of that?

Any link to newer tutorial info, or a hint whether this work stream has
stopped would be appreciated.

Regards, PHilipp

No, you can install Indigo and install the EMF GWT SDK into your target
platform from the Indigo repository.

Yes, it's in Indigo now.

Perhaps you could update the wiki steps when you try out the Indigo version.

Hi Ed,

I could not find the EMF GWT target components on the Indigo update site.

(I am using the bundles available at http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/emf/emf/updates/2.7-I-builds/)

I would also like to know if there is a more up-to-date update site.

THis should work too and there should be an 2.8 version:
http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/emf/emf/updates/2.7

The above is the most recent Indigo version and the 2.8 should be the
most recent HEAD/Juno version.

Csaba.
Did you get it running? Can you share your experience with us?

Hi Philipp,

The last time I followed the instructions on the wikipage was about a
year ago, when the GWT port was fist announced by Ed. At that time I had
no problems getting the sample run.

Since then I am working on a real GWT project that uses EMF. Apart from
the AppEngine storage, I think I am using a considerable part of the EMF
runtime and have no problems doing my daily job.

When started our project I had no GWT experience at all, so I also
benefited from the EMF port as using it as a source of inspiration.

Do you say that the sample can not be currently run? If so, I will give
it a try as I am definitely interested in keeping this side of EMF alive.

Csaba

I was a bit anxious to see if the sample runs, so tried it out. This is
what I did:

1. Downloaded in Eclipse 3.7.1 Classic, GWT SDK 2.4, AppEngine Java SDK 1.6.

2. Started Eclipse, installed EMF SDK and XSD SDK from the Indigo update
site. Restarted.

3. Installed Google Plugin from
http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.7. (Did not install Google SDKs as
those were donwloaded previously.) Restarted Eclipse.

4. Specified the locations of the extracted Google SKDs using the
Windows->Preferences->Google->App Engine and Web Toolkit preference pages.

5. Defined new target platform in Window->Preferences->Plug-in
Development->Target Platform. Used the update site suggested by Ed
(http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/emf/emf/updates/2.7) and selected
the feature called "EMF GWT Target Components". This is the content of
the .target file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<?pde version="3.6"?>

<target name="EMF4GWT" sequenceNumber="4">
<locations>
<location includeAllPlatforms="false" includeMode="slicer"
includeSource="true" type="InstallableUnit">
<unit id="org.eclipse.emf.gwt.sdk.feature.group"
version="2.7.1.v20110913-1526"/>
<repository
location="http://download.eclipse.org/modeling/emf/emf/updates/2.7"/>
</location>
</locations>
</target>

6. Set the defined target as the active one.

7. Created new plugin project called "com.example.library".
Created model folder, then library.genmodel.
Chose XSD as source and provided the URL
http://help.eclipse.org/helios/topic/org.eclipse.emf.doc/tutorials/xlibmod/library.xsd

8. In the genmodel, changed the "Runtime Platform" property from "IDE"
to "GWT".

9. Generated Model, Edit and Editor codes. Got projects
com.example.library.edit, and com.example.library.editor created. All
three projects had the Goggle SDK dependencies set automatically and
compiled without errors.

10. From the context menu of the editor project invoked "Run As->Web
Application". The Development Mode console opened up with the
application URL, which then just worked: created resources/EObjects,
saved them/retrieved them.

11. From the context menu of the editor project invoked "Google->GWT
Compile". Got 6 variants of JavaScript generated, the Library Editor
could be loaded without "?gwt.codesvr=127.0.0.1:9997" in the URL and
without GWT plugin installed in the browser. (The generated JS files are
1 Mbytes each, with the obfuscated GWT compiler code style).

So basically I followed the wiki, without paying too much attention to
the eventual caveats. However, both the EMF tooling and runtime seems to
work with the latest Google libraries/Eclipse platform.

If still stuck, I would be happy to help.
Csaba
