No New-Visual Class Menu Item [message #84877] Sun, 27 March 2005 01:01 Go to next message

Hi,

I downloaded VE-SDK 1.0.2 and put it on top of a working Eclipse 3.0.1.
(incl. JDT 3.0.1). I checked the information under Help - About Eclipse
Platform - Plugin Details and it shows all the entries listed in teh FAQ. I
also read through all the artikles I could find here in the newsgroups and
checked all recommended settings I found there. I also did a
"D:\eclipse\eclipse.exe -clean"

I still don't get the Visual Class Menu Item under "New"

My OS is Win XP Professional and I am using JRE 1.5

Does anyone have a clue of what I do wrong? Some help would be greatly
appreciated. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Cheers

Have a look under File - New - Other. It should then be under the Java
list. That's where I see it. Not sure how to get it on the menu directly.

Cheers,

Hi PeterNZ,

Do you have the PDE plug-ins installed? I ask this because you said
you've installed JDT 3.0.1, which implies you installed the Eclipse
runtime + JDT, rather than the Eclipse SDK. The VE does have a
dependency on PDE as well, but it's not listed on the requirements list
because the requirements specify that it should be installed on top of
Eclipse SDK.

Hope this helps,
- Jeff

Hello Jeff,

thank you fo ryour reply.

hoenstly I wasn't sure if I installed the SDKor teh runtime. Iinstallfrom a
Developers Magazine CD. So I re-installed everything. First I installed
Eclipse SDK 3.0.1 (eclipse-platform-SDK-3.0.1-win32.zip), then the PDE Files
(eclipse-PDE-3.0.1.zip) and then JDT (eclipse-JDT-3.0.1.zip). On top of this
the VE files (VE-SDK-1.0.2.1.zip). And still the same problem.

Just to make sure if I do the right thing. I started Eclipse, switched to
Java Perspective and created a new Java Project with the default settings. I
then create a package under the project using the Context Menu of the
Project "New - Package" in the Package Explorer Window. Next step is the
context menu on the package and under "New ..." I only have "Project",
"Package", "Class", "Interface", "Source Folder", "Folder", "File", "JUnit
Test Case" and "Other". Also under "Other" I do not have a Visual Class
Entry.

Thank you for your help with this.

Peter

Hey Peter I had the exact same problem as you are talking about when I
downloaded and installed VE manually. So, I decided to just start over and
delete the eclipse folder, unzip eclipse again and this time use Software
Updates (under Help) to install VE. Worked great after that and I was
never able to figure out why it didn't work the first time.

Now, if someone can just tell me how to change what Java code the VE
generates when you add swing items to the JFrame. :-)
