This is definately a newbie question geared towards people who have
had more experience in using GEF.
We are looking at possibilities for generating Gantt charts with the
flexibility of Drag-Drop. Some of the features that we deem important
are:
- Rulers to indicate time frames for dragging resources
- Ability to Zoom in-out with appropriate time scale
- Ability to Print the generated graphs as well
In looking over the planned specs for the 2.2 release of GEF, it looks
like a lot of the features that we would be looking for are coming
with that particular release.
Any comments on the viability of such a project in GEF, or other Java
platforms?
Thanks In Advance,
Brendan

2.2, but there is no reason you couldn't write your own ruler in 2.1. We do
not know of any 2.2 line-items that will require changes in draw2d or GEF,
so they are all just add-ons. Maybe you want to be involved in the 2.2
implementation, to be sure that it suits your needs.

For zooming of just the X-axis, you'll probably want to handle that
yourself. GEF has global zoom, which affect everything.

no problem.

I know of a client that has created a Gantt chart using GEF. We have not
done this internally, but I don't see a big problem. I'm not familiar with
Gantt charts, but I'd be happy to talk about it more. With some outside
assistance, we could even make a new example editor that is a gantt chart.
