Hello there,

does anybody know if the RAP project will definitively be an fully
integrated eclipse project since it is still in validation phase. My company
is evaluating which technology to use for a web application. So if it is not
sure that RAP will be a fully integrated eclipse project than it will not be
considered to my disappointment.

Best regards,

Markus

Hi Markus,

Not sure what you exactly mean with "fully integrated eclipse project".
Does that mean being part of the Eclipse release train or do you mean a
project in "implementation" phase?

There is no doubt about RAP being in the validation phase:

"After the project has been created, the purpose of the validation phase
is to establish a fully-functioning open-source project. In this
context, validation (also known as incubation) is about developing the
process, the community, and the technology."

There is a review called Checkpoint Review which checks if a project
meets a set of criteria
( http://www.eclipse.org/projects/dev_process/validation-phase .php#Exiting%20Validation).
If yes the project move to its "implementation" phase.

The Checkpoint Review for RAP is not yet scheduled, but we plan to have
it with our 1.0 release.

Hope that helps,

Jochen

Thank you for Your quick answer, Jochen.
Does this mean, that the project will be continued anyway or may it be
possible that the project might be discontinued?

Best regards,

Markus

Hi Markus,

Innoopract, the driving force behind RAP (and my employer), has just
become a "strategic member" of the Eclipse Foundation, meaning that we
have committed to provide 8 full time developers to advance eclipse
technology. RAP is one of area of our contribution and we will work very
hard to make it a success.

In the case of failing the Checkpoint Review (which has never happened
to a project yet) the project would not get stopped, but continue in
"validation" until another Checkpoint Review. Projects get only stopped
(archived) if they become inactive for a fair amount of time. This could
happen to any kind of project, no matter if in validation or
implementation phase.

Cheers,

Jochen
