Designing a Birt (Layout), Can we also design the page in landscape format (horizontal) or it's vertical the only way?

Yes you can set it to landscape. You can even mix in one report.
Select the master page tab in the report editor and use the orientation
drop down to select landscape. You can create multiple master pages.
Each report item you put on the canvas you can select Page Break in the
properties editor and choose which Master Page to use with the selected
item.
