Hello all,

since yesterday my "Git Staging View" selects no repo
anymore:(

Or it takes a lot of time. Today I'm waiting since 8.00h,
thats 4 hours...SUCKS!!!!

In the last days the repo was choosen by eclipse or something
automatics... I don't know who connect the view.

Works great the last days...

How can I set this manually?!
Why this works sometimes?!

I think something must be broken in egit, first Team->add/commit
won't work...

And now, the last chance "Git Staging View" is broken.

That's horrible and unusable, sorry...

What can I do?

Best regards

Andre

EDIT:

Today, I can't get this work. I've tried to dis/connect the repo
from my project. Nothing:()

One time the "Git Staging View" was connected and works fine, after
closing+restart eclipse the same behavoir:

"no selected repository"

Team->commit hangs, no commit possible in a short time (commiting one file takes
2,5 hours)

From the "Git repostory explorer" the same.

The Git settings points to the correct path and works with the
original console progs fast...

How can I figure out the problem...

Are there more error logs as the "error log view" that can I aktivate or post?!

THX

Andre

The staging view is currently not automatically connected to a repository. There is an open bug for this: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=349763 Does the bug describe the behavior you observe? Note that you should select the toggle button "Link with editor and selection".

Regarding the commit dialog: Do you have a very large repository? Is the performance better when you try it with a small on? What kind of content is in your repo? Do you have many untracked files, for example in a bin- or maven target folder?

YMMD:-)))))

After reading the Bug I do this:

1. Go to "Git Staging" view an click "Link with Editor an Selection"
2. Go to "Git repositories" view, mark the needed repo and via contextmenu
use "Copy Path to Clipboard"
(may be "copy to clibboard" is not needed...)
3. The staging view was connected to the needed repo.

Our repo has 2345 files (cpp+hpp), some png and xpm binaries. That makes 53MB!!!
At this time the hole subfolders are not in the there (but needed):

Test 1 wihtout subfolders:

Modify some files, put them in the "staged files"box, add comment and commit:

Result: WORKS in a few seconds!!! GREAT

Pull+Push works as expected via Team->pull/push in a few seconds...

Test 2, with ALL subfolders ( 158MB !!!)

Same speed, very NICE!!!

The Team->commit think won't work quickly. But the "Git staging view" does!!!

Thank your very very much for this hint, I never had find a solution...

Best regards

Andre

Ok, the suggestion above works, but the bug report also says it's "merged as 3e25690c8687568f321a2f04e4fd6a42cfe3f78b". How can we get this update? I'm running Eclipse 3.7.2 with Egit plugin 1.3.0.201202151440-r and this still doesn't work automatically.

This should work with 1.3, the mentioned bug was closed long time before this release

The circumvention suggested below, namely:

1. Go to "Git Staging" view and click "Link with Editor and Selection"
2. Go to "Git repositories" view, mark the needed repo and via context menu
use "Copy Path to Clipboard" (may be "copy to clipboard" is not needed...)
3. The staging view was connected to the needed repo.

works for me, but this is among the weirdest circumventions I have ever seen!

And the copy-to-clipboard was needed in my case.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read it ("copy something to clipboard, don't bother pasting it anywhere!"), but it does work.
