I am currently using the Jubula plugin for eclipse and my eclipse version is Indigo. After installing the plugin, the performance of eclipse has degraded and I'm not able to create new tests etc. Any idea why this is happening?

Maybe your issue is related to this bugzilla entry since a few people experienced performance problems after installing the Jubula plugin: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=351121
Otherwise could you please provide more information about the system you are running Jubula on?
