Exclude files/directories from build [message #69221] Tue, 22 April 2008 17:01 Go to next message

Is there any way to prevent Eclipse from inspecting particular files and
folders during its validation process? I have several folders which
contains tens of thousands of htm and xml derived files that Eclipse wants
to validate, which is of course incredibly time consuming, unnecessary,
and results in validation errors that I don't need. I've been looking for
a solution for this for months, and recently have searched exhaustively,
to no avail. I've tried:

-Making the desired files/folders hidden (bad solution to begin with, and
also doesn't work)
-Looking through all of the options in Windows->Preferences
-Reading through the Eclipse help files
-Searching through newsgroups and Google: all of the solutions I find
didn't work (as mentioned by the posters themselves), or only applied to
other Eclipse plugins

Does anyone know how to do this, or can anyone at least tell me
definitively that there's no way to do it?

i think the feature you are searching is the feature request 178602 which
suggests to that files/folders which are marked as derived should neither
be parsed nor generate errors/warnings in the task list.

unfortunatly non of the pdt developers responded to that bug - imo the
priority of that feature request should be raised and targeted for the
next release...

inverse approach: you create a new project in a different workspace and add the folders you need
manually using symlinks: new -> folder -> advanced -> link folder to file system -> browse, then
point to the folder you want to be parsed/validated. repeat for your other folders. doesn't work for
files though.

cheers

People should vote for the feature to increase its profile and it should help the pdt developers
prioritise what goes into future versions of PDT.
