Tab and Shift + Tab [message #667317] Thu, 28 April 2011 02:01 Go to next message

After searching for an hour I'm clueless... I'm pretty new to Eclipse and one thing I can't figure out is how to reduce indentation. I configured it to use tabs instead of spaces, 4 spaces per tab. That works just fine. But, when I highlight code and shift + tab to go back 4 spaces, it only goes back one so I have to press shift + tab four times for every level. This happens even when Eclipse is set to use tabs instead of spaces.

Please help.

In case anyone else is ripping their hair out over this annoying thing, upon fresh install my Eclipse had set the default indent size to 1 space in three different locations. Apparently the global settings are overridden by any ones you find in language specific settings.

Indentation size can be located at least here in preferences:

General > Editors > Text Editors
XML > XML Files > Editor
Java > Code Style > Formatter > (Change a profile)
