So I have an unsaved file that I don't currently want to save, but I need to export a JAR in another completely unrelated project. Why does Eclipse not let me do this? What does the unsaved file have to do with anything? Is there any way around this? It's very frustrating.

No. You might want to file a bug against JDT UI.
