Data Source Explorer Timing and Functionality [message #5922] Fri, 16 December 2005 17:00 Go to next message

Hi,

We're eager to use the new datasource explorer, and would like to improve
our knowledge about the plans for this.

1) Will it support stored procs? We had issues with the old WTP Database
explorer and stored procs.
2) Will the v1.0 of this be delivered in sync with the 3.2 release? What is
the expected gap between the release of SDK 3.2 and DTP for 3.2?

Thanks, Blair

Hi Blair,

For (2): DTP is part of the Eclipse 3.2 release train plan ("Callisto"),
so we are aiming for a DTP release on the same day as Eclipse 3.2, with
all DTP functionality working in 3.2 at that time.

For (1): I'll ask the Model Base team to take a look at your question and
respond on this thread.

Blair,

The SQLModel and database definition model for both WTP and now DTP
actually support Stored Procedure definition. It is upto each single
database vendor to implement and support Stored procedure.

For example, the provided Derby Database consists of sample code to
demonstrate how to load Stored Procedure from database and displays in the
Database Explorer in WTP. This implementation will also available in Data
Source Explorer of DTP.

We encouragedatabase vendor to provide thier plugin for database element
loading, not just limited to stored procedure support but also include
Synonym, Materialized Query Table, etc.

Thanks,

Der Ping
