Hi,
an error shows in log like:

XML ERROR in Workbook Setting
REASON: Bad Value
FILE: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Report-42.xls
GROUP: Names
TAG: NamedRange
ATTRIB: Name
VALUE: R2A

is showing when I try to open a excel, which is exported from my BIRT report.

My birt version is 2.3.2. And then I checked my excel file, and found this:

<NamedRange ss:Name="R2A" ss:RefersTo="=Sheet1!R2162C1"/>. If I change R2A to RA, then the excel can be opened
successfully. I also tested it for many times, and found if the name is started with "R number letter" format, the error will
happen.

I'm really confused and have two questions as below:
1, Is the format like "R2A" are illegal for NamedRange name? Does birt has any defined rules for this?
2, If not, can we treat this as a birt bug?

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried this in BIRT 2.6.1?

Hi Jason, currently I didn't test that on 261, I tested on 252, the same problem, as our product use 232 and 252. Seems that the NameRange name is not supported. Should we consider it as a defect?

Are you using the default BIRT excel emitter? Can you post the report
design?

Jason

Does any know what the resolution to this issue from 2010 was?

We have just had a similar problem arise where BIRT titles with a standalone R or C or parentheses creates a NamedRange workbook setting problem after download.

The titles previously worked without a problem.

Thanks. Mike
